On Friday, St Johns loss of JUCO prospect point guard Cam Mack along with the departure of assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih to Nebraska sent waves. Mullin is without a point guard to replacement Shamorie Ponds. There are whispers with the sudden two hits to the St Johns program could Chris Mullin leave the program if a buy out is met.
According to Forbes.com , “Mullin wanted a contract extension, according to a source, to better position himself with recruits and in hiring a replacement for Abdelmassih. He is believed to have two years left on his deal. It’s not known at this point what concessions Mullin got in the end. There also was talk of a potential buyout in which both sides could mutually walk away, a source said, but it’s not known how far that progressed”
Mike Cragg, St. John’s AD In a statement released Saturday morning, athletic director Mike Cragg said, “Let me be clear and I said from the start, Coach Mullin is our head coach and we are not looking for another head coach.”
