RedStormReport.com got a chance to talk to Shamorie Ponds on Saturday in Brooklyn, NY after he took a break from his official visit to St. John’s to play with Thomas Jefferson in the semifinals of the Conrad McRae Youth League.
Ponds started his official visit to SJU and spoke about how the visit was going so far. “It been cool,” said Ponds. On Friday and Saturday, he said he basically ate and shot around with the team. “I watched the team practice,” he added
In addition to touring the campus, “Ponds said that he got a chance to compete against Red Storm head coach Chris Mullin. “We had a shoot around,” Ponds said. “He beat me three times.”
Unfortunately, Ponds presence didn’t put the Jefferson Orange over the top. Arriving at halftime and contributing 9 points in the third quarter, Jefferson still lost to George Westinghouse, 60-56.
Ponds said that he was heading back to St. John’s University to continue his visit.
