This was a game SJU should have won. Poor defense and very poor free throw shooting. PSU gave up too many open shots and put PSU at the free throw line far too often. The knock on Lavin is, while at UCLA he was a good recruiter but less than average coach. The same holds true at SJU in his time here. He recruits far better players than what we've seen in the last 7-8 years prior to his arrival. However, he needs to get an assistant that understands the fundamentals of coaching B ball. Teams with less talented players are better coached. - Box out, set picks, give and goes, contest open shots, play D. The take away from this game is that Hooper finally hit 3's and that we came back to get into ot. If we could hit free throws we would have won.
