In response to a twitter post about St. John's Head Coach Steve Lavin not wearing a suit to the Red Storm Tip-Off Classic, Christ the King Regional HS Head Coach Joe Arbitello replied with an alarming tweet of his own
"no surprise him and his staff have no respect for NYC. #theylie."
When asked what he meant by the tweet, Coach Arbitello said that his cousin Alex Amenta (St. Francis Prep) was promised to be a walk-on at St. John's. "I went to the school with his family and they gave him all the paperwork. The [NCAA] clearinghouse stuff and everything." Arbitello said he, Amenta and his family met with both Lavin and assistant coach Tony Chiles.
Arbitello went on to say that just before the season he received a text from Lavin saying that they would not have a spot of his cousin. "[Lavin] said they had too many walk-on this year," said Arbitello. "I looked like a complete jerk [in front of my family]."
"They blatantly lied to me," Arbitello added.
We reached out to Chiles and received "No comment."
St. John's recently recruited 6'11" Adonis Delarosa from Christ the King. Amenta has a Pre-Med scholarship to St. John's
